Summer Xigaze Temple
Full color Dharma Wheel artist's print
Xigaze is the second largest city in Tibet. It resides at 11,000 feet altitude and can get quite cold, even in summertime. It is home to Tashilhunpo Monastery - one of the largest in Tibet. Its name means "all good fortunes and happiness gathered here." The tallest building on the grounds of the monastery is Maitreya Temple, also known as Jamba Cheynmu.
Despite Xigaze dwelling in the clouds, in the cold, I recognize nothing but warmth within the Buddhist tradition. I've never visited the temple. My imagination has built its internal architecture however. Among its icons, in my imagination, is the Summer Xigaze Temple Dharma Wheel.
