Gilded River Sextant
Full color Dharma Wheel artist's print
Available framed or unframed
Imagine the gold color designed into this wheel to be actual gold; metallic, bright, reflective, rich, with a sanded pattern that accentuates, reflects and scribbles sunlight. The red is a lacquered fire engine that has been buffed and polished with a relentlessness Zen-like calm that has been scribbled into a monk's mind. In my mind's eye, the wheel will glow.
As a kindergartner, my classroom displayed many children's books on shelving in the back of the class. At times, everyday, my teacher would sit my classmates and I in a circle and read to us. Among the books we read was Where The Wild Things Are. It quickly became my favorite book and, despite my current age and being fairly well read, it is still my all-time favorite book.
My innocence made the story and the illustrations believable and, depending on my mood, just a little scary. It carried power and wonder and noise. It glowed.
When I carve, craft and paint his wheel, perhaps it will glow for a viewer like Where The Wild Things Are glowed for me.
