Cerulean Maple Infinite
Full color Dharma Wheel artist's print
Available framed or unframed
In my mind’s eye, I see this Dharma Wheel quite differently than it looks here. It is carved out of a single piece of maple. One’s arms can embrace the outer wheel, but just barely. I found it laying on top of the trunk of the tree from which it was carved, in a meadow surrounded by old growth forest.
It’s weathered and bleached by the sun. Split in places, it looks like it begged the tree or the sky to release it from hundreds of years of waiting, and the sky obliged with a lightning strike that felled several hundred feet of bark, branches, nests and flora. At rest, this mother lies on her side, still among her greater family, having given birth then falling into a sleep that will transform.
A natural interdependence thrives. Water wanders underground, looking for roots, climbing trees and nourishing. Worms, birds, bears, snakes and badgers wander camouflaged, climbing and digging, with no knowledge of the wheel in their presence. It is nothing.
Each animal is on a path from one life to the next, one way or another.
