Zen Spot #77 — Mindfulness, meditation and ever-present sirens February 12, 2018 00:00

Sirens occupy the permanent periphery and are most evident just after I close my eyes. In my home, no matter the room, there is the white noise of lawns being mowed, traffic moving by, children playing, train signals dropping barriers onto crossings and that ubiquitous sign of an emergency.

When I sit in my studio, I accept that the sounds of my neighborhood will tune into a background of one. But the sirens portend suffering — and they are always there.
