The Middle Way

Zen Spot #94 — Mindfulness, meditation and a Buddhist’s remnants of original sin February 19, 2018 00:05

I was born with the destiny of burning forever in the next life. Following lessons on Abraham and Moses, eventually I was taught that, unless I lived life in the manner a man dressed in black deemed sufficient, the consequences were the most unthinkable torture imaginable.

Grab an ember from the bottom of a bonfire. I was six when this belief was hammered into my skull.

Truism of birthright

Give me a child until he is seven years old and I will give you back anything you want.

Like napalm on the brain stem

No matter how far I travel down The Noble Eightfold Path, the fire resides in the back of my mind. It is always there.

I deserve it.
